What Is A Neck Lift?

Necklift for men for a youthful appearance

A less invasive procedure than a facelift, a neck lift involves removing fat and tightening muscles around the upper neck area. This procedure, also called a lower rhytidectomy, helps reverse some of the most telltale signs of aging among men: loose, saggy skin around the neck. For many men in the Chicago area, especially those approaching middle age, a neck lift procedure can help eliminate years from the face, providing a more toned, vibrant, and youthful appearance.

How Is a Neck Lift Performed on Men?

A neck lift is a fairly simple, straightforward procedure that can be performed with either general anesthesia or under IV sedation. Because it is minimally invasive, involving only small incisions around the neck, many men find it a more appealing option than the traditional facelift.

During the operation, Dr. Steinbrech will make small incisions in the patient’s neck. These incisions allow him to remove the excess fat that contributes to loosening skin and tighten the patient’s muscles. Once this is completed, the incisions will be closed. Because each patient has unique facial features, the exact location of the incisions varies. Most commonly, however, they are made directly behind the ear (in proximity to the earlobe), which makes any signs of surgery virtually undetectable.

Preparation For a Male Neck Lift

Men who decide that a neck lift is right for them will hold a preoperative consultation with Dr. Steinbrech at his Chicago office. During this meeting, you will discuss surgical goals, rejuvenation options, overall health, and any pre-existing medical conditions. The specifics of your treatment plan will also be addressed. Dr. Steinbrech is prepared to answer any questions during this consultation.

Who Is a Good Candidate For a Neck Lift?

Many middle-aged men display the typical signs of aging. The most common are the double chin and “turkey neck” (wrinkled, saggy skin around the neck). These signs can be detrimental to overall appearance and self-confidence. For men in Chicago who have experienced substantial weight loss, a neck lift will also help remove the excess skin and fat after a dramatic weight change.

Indeed, any men with these signs of aging who wish to rejuvenate the appearance of their lower face and neck are excellent candidates for a neck lift. Men who are pleased with the appearance of their upper face may not require a full facelift. Dr. Steinbrech has provided hundreds of patients with a more toned and youthful appearance through his neck lift procedure.

A Neck Lift Is a Good Option For Men Who:

  • Display loose, saggy skin around the neck
  • Have excess fatty deposits under the chin, creating jowls
  • Desire a more chiseled, youthful jawline
  • Are a healthy, non-smoking individual with realistic expectations

What Can I Expect From Neck Lift Recovery?

Following a neck lift, mild bruising, swelling, and numbness are common in the postoperative period. These side effects tend to be mild. Bandages will be applied to the patient to aid in the healing process. If excess fluids are present in the neck, Dr. Steinbrech will remove them using drainage tubes. This is done within 24 hours of surgery. Because a neck lift is minimally invasive, most male patients can return to their routine, including work, within two weeks.
