What Are the Different Types of Eyelid Surgery for Men?

Eyelid surgery can help men get rid of the extra eyelid skin, muscle, or fat, and tighten it to restore their youthful appearance. On some occasions, you need the surgery on upper as well as lower eyelids. Just like women, droopy, wrinkled, or baggy eyelids are huge turn-offs for men. These are the main reasons why men consider undergoing eyelid surgery to rejuvenate their look.

There are different types of eyelid surgeries for men that many people are not aware of. Knowing the types of surgeries will help you figure out which one is suitable for you; these include blepharoplasty, ptosis repair, and a brow lift.

What Are the Different Types of Eyelid Surgery for men

Blepharoplasty

An eyelift surgery has another name, “blepharoplasty” and it is a surgical procedure to lift the position of the upper eyelid margin. Through this procedure, a plastic surgeon tightens the muscle and tendon to elevate the eyelid.

On some occasions, men undergo blepharoplasty surgery if the heavy excessive skin weighs down the upper eyelid, making it droop.

This procedure is perfect for men who have the following issues:

  • Extra muscle or fat in the upper eyelid is causing puffiness.
  • Eyelid wrinkles due to excess skin.
  • Folds in the eyelid because of sagging skin.
  • Droopy eyelids.
  • Eye bags below eyelids.

Blepharoplasty is an effective surgery for removing or repositioning fat to remove puffiness and trim the excess skin.

Ptosis Repair

Typically, ptosis is a droopy upper lid, which partly covers the pupil. Ptosis can lead to a tired or disheveled appearance and may even obstruct vision. The ptosis repair surgery can give men a more youthful and rejuvenated look, along with improving the sight.

During the procedure, a surgeon performs a delicate surgery to lift the upper eyelids by working on the eyelid muscles that often weaken with age. It is possible to repair the ptosis internally without making any incision over the eyelid.

Brow Lift

These days, many men seek help in making their eyelids appear more rejuvenated through brow lift. The improvement with this eyebrow lift procedure is striking.

There is a multitude of approaches to carry out brow lift procedures. A surgeon can perform an eyebrow lift by lifting the eyebrows laterally or can lift them completely through an endoscopic method.

During the process, the surgeon creates an incision over the scalp, or along the hairline. There are various criteria to decide on one particular surgical procedure over the other.

Choosing the Best Male Plastic Surgery Specialist

All of these different eyelid surgeries may appear to treat the same issues. However, after a thorough examination and evaluation by a board-certified, skilled, and experienced cosmetic surgeon, you will get to know which eyelid surgery is the best for you.

Dr. Steinbrech Talks Aesthetics on the Create Your Own Life Podcast

This month, Dr. Steinbrech joined the Create Your Own Life Podcast host, Jeremy Ryan Slate. In the episode, Dr. Steinbrech talks about following his passion and how to go from a brand new idea to fostering that concept into something successful. He also talks about how the medical programs at NYU inspired him to transition from an early idea to pursue cardiac surgery to aesthetics – an industry that speaks more to his creativity.

“With women in aesthetics, we’ve all kind of got it figured out. We’ve been doing breast augmentations and rhinoplasty on women for basically the last 50 or 60 years. There’s a lot of innovations. For men, we were in the [figurative] 1950 or 1960s in terms of technology, products, and techniques. In residency programs, no one really teaches men’s plastic surgery.

We’ve been taught that men don’t want it. They’re too cool for it. Only women want it… men have been left out of the game. The challenge is educating men and teaching surgeons how to work on men. Now the technology and the ability to hide incisions is out there. That’s why I released my textbook Male Aesthetic Plastic Surgery which is out now on Amazon.”

5 Top Medical Aesthetic Procedures for Males

In the cosmetic surgery industry, an often overlooked demographic is the male audience. Focus typically falls on the female clientele, with media appearances by models and actresses stimulating the conversation. However, each year more and more men have turned to cosmetic surgery as a means of enhancing their bodies. So this begs the question: what’s leading this movement?

For a long time, men have felt a negative social stigma when it comes to seeking plastic surgery. Fears of being judged for seeking cosmetic enhancements have fueled this stigma. Despite that, the last 10 years have trended in the opposite direction. Men are feeling more comfortable seeking plastic surgery now and this mostly due to a larger societal acceptance of it in the public sphere. The last decade’s sharp increase of social media usage has helped push the conversation around cosmetic enhancements into public interest. With more people talking about plastic surgery, more people are seeking plastic surgery.

The reasons why men are seeking plastic surgery vary. Whether it be actors and models looking to land more jobs or dads longing for the body of their yesteryears, cosmetic surgery has been a solution these individuals can turn to. People of all ages are looking to these procedures to achieve their desired bodies. In fact, 35-50-year-old patients make up the largest percentage of individuals who have had procedures. The many types of procedures offered cater to all.

Procedures range from under-the-knife surgery to minimally-invasive injections to the skin. Liposuction is the most common procedure done, aimed to help people get rid of unwanted fat. The procedure is often considered part of the ‘Daddy-Do-Over’ set of procedures, aimed at older men looking to refine their bodies. Rhinoplasty, also known as a ‘nose job’, is a cosmetic staple that people of all ages undergo to get their desired nose.

Kybella Benefits for Men

If you have excess fullness beneath the chin that you’re self-conscious about, the chances are you’re not alone. This can affect men at any age, whether you’ve struggled with it your whole life or only noticed it recently.

Submental fullness—also referred to as a “double chin”—can be caused by genetics, weight gain, and/or aging. This stubborn fat under the chin tends to stick around no matter how much you diet or exercise and can lead to an unbalanced facial appearance or and heavier look. For men, this can be problematic and detract from chiseled features including a strong, sculpted jaw and chin.

In the past, traditional surgical methods like liposuction and neck lifts were the only options for men. For mild to moderate amounts of excess fat in this area, Kybella is the easiest way to get rid of a double chin. This treatment is the first and only FDA-approved injectable drug that can drastically improve the facial profile.

Kybella is an injectable treatment that permanently destroys fat cells under the chin. The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that breaks down and absorbs fat. In this application, Kybella—a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid—is injected directly into submental fat. The injection then breaks up fat cells, dissolving them forever. One of the benefits of Kybella for men is that it’s a safe, effective way of eliminating a double chin without having to undergo surgery and the results are long-lasting to permanent.

Most male patients typically need 2 to 4 Kybella treatment sessions, spaced about 1 month apart. This will depend on the amount of fat present and each individual patient’s response to the injections. Some patients may need up to 5 or 6 total treatments, but sessions are typically quick, painless, and can be performed within about 15 minutes. After the treatment, no special care is needed and regular activities can be resumed immediately.

For those who are unfamiliar with Kybella or want to learn more, here’s how it can help.

Top 5 Kybella Benefits for Men

1. It’s a quick, easy, and minimally-invasive procedure.

Kybella is different from other double chin treatments in that it doesn’t require surgical incisions, downtime, or general anesthesia. Kybella is the only minimally-invasive procedure available today to treat a double chin. During a Kybella treatment session, a series of 10-20 injections are administered directly into the patient’s double chin area. The procedure itself only takes 15 minutes and the fat cells will begin to dissolve immediately.

2. There’s no downtime.

For most men, the recovery process after receiving a Kybella injection is minimal. The patient is able to go home the same day and resume regular day-to-day activities right away. Immediately following the treatment, patients may experience soreness in the injection area. One of the benefits of Kybella for men is that each subsequent treatment, there’s typically a reduction in recovery time.

3. Side effects are rare and temporary.

Directly after a Kybella treatment, male patients can expect redness, swelling, bruising, and discomfort at the injection site. In some cases, men have reported numbness or areas of hardness. All of these side effects are temporary and will clear up on their own. Please contact your technician or primary health-care professional if you have difficulty swallowing, facial/muscle weakness, or you develop an uneven smile.

4. Noticeably more attractive, youthful appearance.

By dissolving stubborn fat deposits below the chin, you’re one step close to seeing the chiseled chin and sculpted jawline you once had. Kybella is ideal for men who want a contoured, youthful, and noticeably more attractive appearance. Patients who receive Kybella treatments may need up to 6 sessions in order to achieve the look they want. Injections must be spaced out at least 1 month apart, however, many men have reported seeing visible results within 2 to 4 Kybella treatments.

5. The results are permanent.

One of the most important Kybella benefits is that when injected underneath the chin, the fat cells are destroyed meaning they can no longer store or accumulate fat. This results in a noticeable reduction of fullness under the chin. After the desired look has been achieved, depending on the patient, there is no need for additional treatments or touch-ups. The results are long-lasting to permanent.

5 Unknown Facts About Gynecomastia

From adolescence to adulthood, men suffering from gynecomastia often think that the condition is rare, or perhaps, that they are among the unlucky few. However, some degree of gynecomastia presents in more than half the male population at one point or another during an individual’s lifespan. What’s more, is the condition even affects as many as 70 percents of boys during puberty (when certain hormonal changes occur). To give a frame of reference, there are millions of men in the U.S. who are affected by gynecomastia.

What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia | healthdirect

Gynecomastia is defined as an excess of the male glandular breast tissue. The word is itself, gyneco meaning “woman-like” and mastia meaning “breast” is literally where the term comes from. To the layman, the condition is commonly referred to as “man boobs.” Gynecomastia itself though is caused by high levels of estrogen in a man which are disproportionate to the amount of testosterone in their body, resulting in the swelling or enlargement of tissue in the breast. Its development most often starts as a small lump under one or both of a man’s nipples which, in some cases, will feel tender to the touch.
